About Golden Pine Coffee Roasters

It all began with a one pound Sonofresco air roaster and a dream. Golden Pine was spun off of R & R Coffee Café when our roasting operations expanded past the store. Upon our move to our new location in early 2013, we upgraded our roasterie to include a 12 pound Sivetz Air Roaster. We also added a training lab and more storage space. As we continued to evolve, we realized our trusty Sivetz wasn’t cutting it anymore. In 2017 we moved from the air roaster to a lovingly restored 1987 Diedrich IR-12.

Our Roasting Philosophy

Coffee is a community. From the seedling of the coffee tree all the way to our baristas crafting your beverage, many communities are involved in your bean. We feel it is our duty to roast our coffee to bring out all the nuanced flavors coffee can bring to the cup. There is no one set roast profile. There is no one way of roasting. Each new bag of coffee we bring in goes through a rigorous sampling and cupping routine so we can ensure we are creating not just a cup you will savor but a cup worthy of all the hours of work that went into the creation of the coffee.

What’s in a name?

Originally, the roasting operation of R&R was simply called that. This worked fine for the very limited coffee service we had outside of the café. But as the wholesale operations continued to grow, we found that it would make more sense to “brand” the roasterie something different. Simply put, “we get our coffee from this café in Black Forest” didn’t quite have the same ring to it as “we get our coffee from __ Roasters.”

So we needed a name. We rattled around with a few with nothing really sticking or memorable. One late afternoon, Ryan was working on a project on his laptop in the dining room of our old location. A weird yellowish glow filled the room and outside. A strong thunderstorm was overhead, and the sun had set below the level of the clouds, filling the sky with that otherworldly glow. He found that one of the pine trees behind the store was bathed in that yellow light, making the tree glow with a shimmering golden hue. Thus, Golden Pine Roasters was created.

Our Roast Master

Ryan, the owner and Roast Master of R&R and Golden Pine, has been in the foodservice industry almost his entire working life. While studying in Greeley, he helped open a coffee bar. That bar used Illy Espresso, and it just so happens a representative of Illy was available to give the opening crew of that coffee bar formal Italian espresso training. He was hooked on the coffee world instantly. Research in coffee followed, and his career path steered headlong into coffee. Roasting always intrigued him, and he learned the craft from research and hands-on training. Now, with over 12 years of practical roasting experience, he’s pleased to offer you the results of the craft of coffee roasting.
